Downtown Colon

Big Tom

Sunday 17 - Thursday 21 March

After a day chasing around the panamanian customs and police for our exit paperwork we headed to the landy dealer, Motores Britanicos, in Corozal where our replacement Old Man Emu shock absorbers were waiting. We'd been here the week before and got hold of a Discovery handbrake cable to replace our broken one. The owner, Felipe, a Colombian who thinks we are mad for going to visit his country, is a top guy. He sorted out the delivery of the shocks and let us mess up his workshop and do a bit of email too. We had no time to put the shocks on so they were put in the back of the landy and we headed into the city to find some action for our last night. Somehow we stumbled on a warm up party for a big surfing competition to be held at the weekend. There was free beer and food served by a bevy of gorgeous girls and some surfy type blokes that may or may not have been famous...not that we cared.

Just fits in

Well tied down

Arriving at Colon early in the morning we headed into Zona Libre first to buy a new MD head unit. We realised that they are about $100 cheaper here so we arranged to have one sent to the airport the next day.

Once that was sorted the next step was to get the landy in its container. Armed with our paperwork things were very smooth and the landy was soon on its way. For details on shipping to Colombia look here.

Arriving at the airport the next morning, in a bus which cost 25 cents each for the 20kms journey instead of $25 in a taxi, we were dismayed to find the new stereo wasn't waiting for us. On calling the shop in Colon, they were profusely apologetic and promised to get it to us in Cartagena. In the airport shopping centre we saw our digi camera for $480 but we we'd already given TWR the money and it was on order in america so we didn't buy it (maybe that was a mistake).
